Men's Mental Health Month Taking Action

Stretching Body and Mind for well-being

I did not know it’s Men’s Mental Health Month, maybe because for me every month is mental health month.

Now that you are aware, are going to do something with it? I know from my own experience, that the distance between awareness and actual change can feel as wide as Victoria Harbour before land reclamation.

I am offering something refreshingly simple: three relaxed Monday-evening gatherings in Sheung Wan where we stretch, breathe and meditate together.

The sessions still run on 9th, 16th and 23rd June, from 7:00 to 8:30pm in a cosy studio four minutes from the SHEUNG WAN MTR.

In this small group we are allowed to wobble in a pose without judgment and laugh when a hamstring squeaks in protest. No pretzel postures and absolutely no requirement for fancy gear. Comfortable shorts and an open mind are plenty.

Each evening

  • begins with straightforward stretches that loosen the hips and back—perfect for those of us who spend the day folded over laptops
  • after we move, we settle onto mats for guided mindfulness meditation that quiets the mental commentary and reduces rumination
  • we finish with practical breathing drills you can deploy in a taxi queue, a board meeting, or a toddler meltdown.

Combine stretches, meditation and breathwork

Gentle movement tells the nervous system it is safe to power down. Mindfulness, practised consistently, cuts the endless replay of mistakes and what-ifs. Slow, deliberate breathing nudges the body from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest, lowering blood pressure and heart rate without a pill in sight.
